[Light Novel] I'm in Love with the Villainess

I only bought the first volume and I'm halfway reading it from writing this blog. I figured I'd give a quick review of what I've read so far and I'm gonna try to avoid as much spoilers as possible if anyone's interested in picking it up.

Well as I was browsing my local book store, when this light novel caught my eye because of the title, "I'm in Love with the Villainess." I thought to myself, this sounds like Bakarina, and as I read the plot summary it was in fact the opposite of Bakarina. SOLD. In a nutshell, the main character gets isekai'd (teleported to another world) for no reason. She awakens as the main character of her favorite otome (dating sim) game. Taking on the character of Rae Taylor she is now living a new life as a high school student in a fantasy setting world. As a typical dating game she gets the option to romance some of the characters she comes across, however she chooses to ignore the main love interests and go for the villainess Claire Francois instead.

The interaction between Rae and Claire is very entertaining and makes you think who the bully in this situation is. Claire is the stereotypical school bully that messes with Rae. She will push Rae aside, insult her, steal her things etc. However, Rae enjoys all of the torment Claire throws at her. She at one point encourages all the torment, confusing Claire. Claire has no idea how to react Rae's behavior at all. Claire will generally call her names and insult her and Rae's response would be like, "please praise me some more." Confused by this, Claire will commonly turn red with anger and embarrassment by Rae's reactions to her bullying. The more Claire tries to ridicule Rae, the worse (or better) Rae reacts.

As far as I'm aware, an anime adaptation has not been announced for this, but I would really hope a studio decides to pick this up. With "My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom," gaining popularity it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for someone to decide to animate this light novel. It only has 2 books published in English and I believe on 3 right now in Japan, so it would not be enough yet get a 12 episode anime run yet. Welp here's hope to the future that it does get an anime adaptation. I'll do my best to keep up with the light novel in the meantime.
